Celebrating History and Culture for Hispanic Heritage Month
This country is made up of immigrants from all over, creating a nation that is rich with cultures from around the world. And it’s that mix of cultures that makes this country so special and brings us opportunities to celebrate the beauty in the different cultures. September 15 to October 15 is designated as Hispanic Heritage Month, a time when we recognize the contributions, history, and culture of Hispanic people in the United States.
For generations, Hispanics, Hispanic-Americans, Latinx, and Latinx-Americans have made an impact in the arts, sciences, politics, music, business, and more. As a POC-founded company, Yellow Bliss Co. takes every opportunity to celebrate people of color and minority communities and how they have contributed to the culture.
History of Hispanic Heritage Month
Hispanic Heritage Month first began in 1968 as a week-long celebration before being expanded to a month-long one in 1988. The timeframe of setting this celebration between September and October is to commemorate the independence days of a variety of Hispanic nations.
Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua celebrate their Independence Day on September 15, the start of the Hispanic Heritage Month. September 16 is Mexico’s, September 18 is Chile’s, and September 21 is Belize’s.
This month aims to spotlight Hispanic and Latinx voices, experiences, history, and achievements. We also seek to showcase the influence Hispanic and Latinx cultures has had on America’s culture and history.
